Memory Baby
“Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” Psalm 71:9
Santa & Friends has delivered hundreds of “Memory Babies” to Alzheimer’s/Dementia patients living in nursing homes.
Some patients will sit happily for hours cuddling and loving their baby. We have had some that were nonverbal that actually talk to their baby. The baby brings much pleasure to the patients and also helps ease anxiety, aggression and gives meaning and purpose to their day. These patients are not just playing with a baby doll. They are actually fulfilling an important need, the need to nurture.
Using a baby doll can be a very effective way for a person with Alzheimer’s or any kind of dementia to decrease stress and agitation. A caregiver can use doll therapy for dementia patients as a way to put responsibility, caring and structure back into the lives of those afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Santa & Friends hopes their “memory babies” will bring comfort and pleasure to these special folks. We hope our babies will help them to remember with their hearts, what they have forgotten in their minds.
